Description

The 1999 United States Open Championship was the 99th U.S. Open, held June 17–20 at Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Payne Stewart won his second U.S. Open and third major championship, one stroke ahead of runner-up Phil Mickelson. When Payne Stewart’s LEGENDARY 18-foot par putt on the last hole disappeared into the cup, he enacted his iconic fist pump. Next, he grabbed both sides of Mickelson’s face and said, “Good luck with the baby, there is nothing like being a father.” Phil’s wife Amy was about to give birth to their first child, with Mickelson preparing to leave the course at any time in the event she started to give birth before the round was over.
